Reflective static display, no backlight

10+ yrs
Battery Life

Single cell, unattended operation

-30~+85°C
Wide Temp

Outdoor pits, cabinets, extreme climates

100%

IQC → IPQC → OQC on every unit

How We Get Under 10 µA

Three Design Choices That Save the Battery

Ultra-low power isn't a single feature — it's a combination of three design decisions.

Reflective Polarizer

No backlight needed — ambient light is reflected off the rear polarizer and read by the user. The backlight, which normally draws the most current, is eliminated entirely.

Low-Power LCD Fluid

The liquid crystal fluid is selected for a low threshold voltage, so the segment can be driven at minimal voltage. This drops the per-segment current draw to the microamp range.

Static Drive Mode

Each segment is driven directly, not multiplexed. Multiplexing saves pins but costs current — static drive eliminates the duty-cycle current multiplier entirely.

Result: A static reflective segment LCD drawing <10 µA in continuous display — well within a 10-year battery budget.

Communication Integration

Display + Communication in One Module

Since we run PCBA assembly in-house, we can deliver a fully integrated display + MCU + communication module.

NB-IoT

Low-power wide-area network. Ideal for water/gas meters where battery life and coverage matter.

LoRa / LoRaWAN

Long-range, low-power. Common in private utility networks and industrial sub-metering.

RS-485 / Modbus

Wired industrial standard. For electricity meters and industrial measurement instruments.

M-Bus / Wireless M-Bus

European standard for utility metering. Common in heat and water meters.

Turnkey advantage: We can deliver a display + driver IC + MCU + communication module in one assembly — tested and ready to plug into your meter board.

FAQ

Common Questions

Questions from metering buyers and engineers.

Can the display start reliably at -30°C?
Yes. We select wide-temperature liquid crystal and matching polarizers rated for -30°C startup and +85°C continuous operation. Please tell us your minimum startup temperature so we can confirm the fluid selection.
My MCU pins are limited — can you optimize the drive scheme?
Yes. We adjust Duty and Bias ratio to reduce pin count. Share your controller model and available pins, and our engineer will confirm the optimal driving scheme. Note: multiplexing saves pins but costs current — for battery meters, static drive is usually the better trade-off.
Can you reverse-engineer a display when the original supplier stopped production?
Yes. Send us a physical sample — we measure the outline, segment pattern, pin assignment and connection method, then issue a spec for your confirmation before tooling. This is a common request from meter makers whose original display supplier has exited the market.
Can you deliver a display + MCU + communication module as one assembly?
Yes — this is our turnkey advantage. Because we run PCBA assembly in-house, we can deliver a fully integrated module: display + driver IC + MCU + NB-IoT / LoRa / RS-485 / M-Bus communication. Tested and ready to plug into your meter board. Tell us your communication standard and we'll quote the complete module.
